Region: Heathcote (VIC)
Low yields, reduced irrigation and careful sunlight exposure produce grapes with rich flavour and intensity. The resulting wine is inky, purple in colour with violet and dark fruitcake aromas. Thick, chewy tannins compliment a luscious palate of spice, pepper and toasty American oak. 12 months + barrel maturation have softened tannin, not withstanding this is still a full bodied red with great aging potential and powerful weight.
Cheese and full flavoured dishes.
“This is an old, but good-school shiraz, coating the mouth with blue and dark fruit flavours, boozy fruit cake spice, mocha and bourbon vanilla tones from an arsenal of American oak. This said, the alcohol feels digestible and the tannins coat the gums rather than rasping them. Forceful of personality and length. Comforting, if far from prosaic. Like sagging into a comfy chair.” – 92 Points, James Halliday
